TL;DR

NAB Show “has had a very important role in my career,” says Curious Refuge CEO and cofounder Caleb Ward.
Ward says he always looks forward to walking the show floor and “having conversations with people that work for all of these incredible brands” because the folks in “the booths are really knowledgeable, and they actually really want to help you.
“So I have countless conversations that I’ve started up with people at the NAB Show, and that’s echoed into either business opportunities or just creative questions that get answered.”
At this year’s NAB Show, Ward says, “I want to have conversations with a lot of these brands about how they’re thinking about AI, and how that integrates into everything from the types of features that they’re implementing and cameras, and broadcast equipment all the way to of course, the software manufacturers.”
He adds, “But I would be lying if I didn’t say that another big part of NAB that I’m really excited about is just the side split off parties that happen. So funny to just like, you know, be in a place where everybody understands just that nerdy niche that you live in.”
This year, Curious Refuge will host a party for the AI filmmaking community at the HyperX Arena on April 15. NAB Amplify readers can purchase their tickets at 50% off using code NAB50.
At NAB Show, Ward says, “It feels like your guard is down. And you’re like talking in, like, this language that you don’t normally get to talk with other people.”
“I can’t imagine not trying to make it out every year because it really is an essential conference for us,” he explains. “If you guys run into us at the show floor, please say ‘hello.’”
The Wards are also scheduled to speak on a panel on Sunday (Lights, Camera, Studio! The Insider’s Guide to Building Your In-House Facility) and participate in a Conversation Corner session on Wednesday morning focused on the economics of using AI for filmmaking. Both sessions are open to those with Exhibits passes (register here for yours using code AMP08).
