Molten rain threatens Gerard Butler in “Greenland”

Director Ric Roman Waugh’s “Greenland” was originally scheduled to be released in June, but the pandemic changed that — it’s now available on premium VOD. Waugh, who reunites with “Angel has Fallen” actor Gerard Butler, had not yet finished his post-production when the lockdown happened.

Although he had locked picture, there was still a lot to be done — from score to visual effects and coloring. But secure drives and remote working meant Waugh could finish his film as intended.

AT A GLANCE:

Director Ric Roman Waugh had already locked “Greenland” before Covid-19 locked down everything else. His June release date was out the window, but the film, starring Gerard Butler and Morena Baccarin, still had to be finished. Scoring, visual effects and coloring needed to be done, but the director and his post production crew had to figure out how to stick together and work remotely. The movie is about a couple, separated during a global disaster, who are trying to find their way back to one another, which in some ways mirrored the film’s production.

A creative team, working closely, when they suddenly are forced to work remotely during a global pandemic, but trying to stay together via their work. “We started finding that parallel in the editing room,” said Waugh. “You get to these organic mirrors of the tensions that they’re going through.”
