REFERENCE DESIGN: Sport Gamification Interactive TV App

Winner of the SportsPro OTT Innovation Awards 2020 and shortlisted for the TVoT Awards 2020, Fincons Group’s Sports Gamification is a reference design TV APP relevant to sports leagues or teams but also to content distributed by broadcasters or cable companies.

Originally developed as a PoC for NESN (New England Sports Network) broadcaster in Boston, the Sports Gamification TV App enhances the consumption and use of Hybrid TV (combining Linear and OTT TV) in the sports entertainment sector while measurably increasing fan engagement and enhancing revenue opportunities, based both on addressable advertising and third-party products and merchandising.

The user can:

  • answer pre-game and in-game questions raised by the editorial team back-office and triggered in sync with video
      
  • participate in live contest and/or betting
  • obtain gamification rewards, which will be displayed on the main leader boards on TV, in addition to real-time sports statistics regarding the sport event. Data and statistics relating to real (or even fantasy) sports fuel increased engagement in the games, encouraging fans to place wagers and pit themselves against other fans in their predictions. This solution creates a new social dimension, that in a Covid era can significantly enhance user experience and engagement during sport live events.
